Teaching & Leadership
My work in higher education includes film teaching, course and programme leadership, curriculum innovation, and the development of learning frameworks that connect creative practice with industry realities. I am particularly interested in how pedagogy can remain critically grounded while responding to new tools, new workflows, and new student needs.
Teaching philosophy
Teaching film is not the same as teaching about film. The distinction matters: effective film education has to operate simultaneously at the level of craft, critical thinking, and professional formation. Students need to be able to make things, think about what they are making, and understand the industry they are making them for, and these are not separate modules.
My teaching is built around the idea that learning happens through sustained engagement with real problems. Live briefs, industry mentors, and authentic assessment tasks are not decorative additions to a curriculum; they are the architecture that makes learning stick. Alongside this, I am committed to ensuring the critical tradition students encounter is diverse enough to be useful.

I have taught at Levels 4 through 7 across Ravensbourne University London, University for the Creative Arts (UCA), and MetFilm School. Modules include:
Academic career
MetFilm School, BIMM University, London · July 2024–present. Lead responsibility for programme design, student development, curriculum review, and the integration of emerging industry practice into undergraduate film education. Working across quality assurance, assessment design, and staff development in a dynamic, industry-facing environment.
University for the Creative Arts (UCA), Farnham · January 2022–June 2024. Led the film programme portfolio through a period of significant curriculum review. Responsibilities included academic staff development, QAA compliance, external examiner relations, industry partnership development, and engagement with the REF context for practice-based outputs.
Ravensbourne University London · September 2018–December 2021. Teaching across television production and broadcast technology at undergraduate level, with responsibilities for module leadership, assessment, and programme development. Concurrent with work at MAMA Youth Project.
MAMA Youth Project, June 2016–May 2019. Designed and delivered broadcast technical training for young people from underrepresented backgrounds. This role directly shaped my thinking about widening participation as a structural curriculum-design challenge rather than a supplementary programme layered on top of existing provision.

Strategic work
Beyond teaching, my work spans quality assurance, institutional strategy, and academic development.
Building programmes that are epistemically coherent as well as industrially relevant. This means making visible the design logic of a curriculum: what is being learned, how it connects, and what it prepares students to do.
Experience with QAA frameworks, periodic review, assessment board governance, external examiner relations, and programme approval processes. Quality assurance as an opportunity for strategic programme development rather than compliance overhead.
Supporting academic staff to develop their practice, sustain their research, and contribute to the wider institutional mission. Building teams that are intellectually alive and pedagogically confident.
Developing meaningful relationships with industry that go beyond guest lectures and live briefs to shape how programmes are structured, assessed, and positioned in the graduate market.
